Mission: Haiti 2013

Date: Jan. 19-31. Length of trip: 12-14 days. Team size: 6-7 members.

Purpose: This will be our 11th short-term trip to Haiti. This is the oldest mission of Climbing For Christ, dating back to 2005. Among the goals for this team will be…

  • To continue ongoing work in all areas: spiritual, educational, and medical. Seminary training, VBS for school children, and medical clinics will be offered. The team will continue using the “EMT” or “Eric Memorial Tent” (named to honor late friend Dr. Eric Cederstrom). The EMT will be dedicated at Eric’s home church, Hope Lutheran in Rochester, NY, with the team attending. This will part of this team’s pre-mission training and fellowship.
  • To continue building His church – the body of Christ – through discipleship, seminary training, and physical assistance. The fourth church building is being constructed in the Haitian part of the Dominican border village of Jimani and a fifth church is being built with new believers in the Haitian border village of Mare Pitre. Our team will visit both places as well the other villages affiliated with Monte Pou Kris (Climbing For Christ in Haitian Creole).

Cost: Estimated at US$1,800. This includes airfare, ground transport, accommodations and food.

To apply: E-mail info@ClimbingForChrist.org to request a mission application.

Mission Moment: Haiti (Thursday, May 9)

Haiti: A church with no church By Jordan Rowley Climbing For Christ spiritual coordinator Last January, Climbing For Christ sent a team to Haiti for the eleventh time [CLICK HERE to read our Trip Report]. During Mission: Haiti 2013, we met a group of new believers who are now in the eleventh hour. They are a church with no church. They are our brothers and sisters – our Christian family – in the Haitian village of Mare Pitre. Throughout the dry season, this new and precious body of believers has been gathering underneath a large tarp. This has been just barely enough to protec... Read more »

Mission Moment: Haiti (Friday, March 29, 2013)

Haiti’s waiting on the rain Beans have been delivered to farmers in Malasi, teaching to pastors and church leaders at the monthly seminary in Thoman, and fertilizer to people in Gentilhomme. These were among the blessings of recent weeks in Haiti. At the same time, our teacher from Thoman (Vixson) was buried, another teacher from Malasi (Emilien) recovered from illness, and a teacher from Gentilhomme (Mathuren) was arrested on the Dominican border. These were among the many challenges in recent weeks in Haiti. In addition to teaching six pastors and 15 leaders from six villages at the... Read more »

Mission Moment: Haiti (Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013)

A death in Haiti By Gary Fallesen President, Climbing For Christ The news came on Friday with a message that began simply “there are problems in Haiti.” There is a litany actually. But this specific problem involved Vixson, a 21-year-old teacher in our school at the church at Thoman. He was riding a motorcycle from Soliette with another boy when he was struck and killed immediately by a heavy truck. Vixson was not married and did not have children. He had been working in the Thoman school since 2010 and was teaching the second-year students. Another death in Haiti. Another death... Read more »

Mission Moment: Haiti (Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013)

“My joy is so big for 80 people worshiping” at the church at Mare Pitre on Sunday, Jan. 13, missionary Miguel Rubén Guante said. "It was very exciting to see how much people were thirsty for the word of God. God is God, He knew why he sent me there.” Miguel began evangelizing in Mare Pitre in September 2012 after Dominican authorities closed a particular border crossing. God turned this difficulty to good by delivering Climbing For Christ (Monte Pou Kris in Haitian Creole) to a small village in Haiti's southeast. The first worship on Sept. 16 attracted 15 people, but ... Read more »
