Mission: Malawi 2023

Doing it for Jesus

“Those who were homeless, now they have a house to call home,” Kingdom worker Damson Samson said when asked about Climbing For Christ’s impact on his home country. “Those walking naked were dressed up.”

Ministry partner Pastor Duncan Nyozani talked about orphan care and boarding school fees paid for children who would have had no roof over their heads or chance to receive an education.

Food has been provided – along with the Bread of Life. Preaching, teaching, and training disciples of Jesus who will make more disciples and plant churches. From guides and porters working on Mulanje Massif to widows in numerous villages across southern Malawi, lives have been transformed.

How many?

“The coming of Climbing For Christ (in 2010 and on eight Evangelic Expeditions in 13 years) has changed many things and thousands of lives have been touched,” Damson said.

Working in some of the world’s poorest countries – including Malawi, Tanzania, Nepal, and Haiti – has been a challenge for C4C, which is a small ministry. Sometimes the victories we see are small. But we press on.

Duncan notes that the needs, which are great, remain food (“people are starving so much here,” he said in what is an annual February-March replay) and clean water. A cholera outbreak began in March 2022 and fatalities doubled in January 2023. “Cholera cases are alarming,” Duncan said. “Dysentery and other water-borne diseases are very high. Thousands of people have died recently.”

The addition of boreholes (wells that cost about $7,500 USD apiece) are among the requests we receive. Every request comes under the lens of Matthew 25: “For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.  I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’ And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’”

MISSION: MALAWI 2023, scheduled March 11-20, was postponed. It has been rescheduled for Aug. 16-24. This expedition includes two days of training with our DMD and Discovering the Bible students (guides and porters) in the Mulanje Massif Chapter, as well visits to new homes built for widows and a special widows’ program. We’ll also spend time with orphans sponsored by Project 1:27 Malawi.
