(Sept. 3, 2014) Climbing For Christ’s missionary to Peru, Jaime Servat, was back in the Cordillera Blanca Range of Peru’s beautiful Andes yet again this past month. He connected with our beloved sister, Teresa, and her granddaughter, Alison – who have both become a very special part of C4C’s family. As promised during his last visit, Jaime provided Alison with some much needed medicine for an issue with her eyes from Dr. Yvan in Huaraz. Dr Yvan also sent along some school supplies for two children, Angela and Marco. Jaime learned of their need during his last visit and prayed that God would provide the supplies they needed.
The construction of the church in Chalhua continues to move forward as well. During Jaime’s last visit to the neighboring village of Huaripampa in July, a number of the Christian men there offered their help to – as Jaime wrote – “come support with hands the mixing of the crude concrete.” However, when Jaime arrived in Chalhua expecting to see them, no one was present. So Jaime set off from Chalhua to Huraipampa. Upon his arrival, he learned that just 10 minutes prior, as a group of believers were gathered in prayer, a large rock had crashed down the hillside and onto the roof of Huraipampa’s Christian church. Jaime gave thanks to God “the big stone was not broken to fall down into the church causing [the] killing [of those] who were praying.” Amen. We give thanks that no one was injured, too!

As God always works all things for the good, this incident provided an opportunity to share the love and grace of the Lord. Although the brothers in Huaraipampa had neglected their promise to come help with the concrete for the church in Chalhua, Jaime was led by the Lord to offer them a number of roofing tiles to repair the damage done to the church.
The event also gave Jaime an opening to preach to the people. After sharing about God’s chastening of those whom He loves, he concluded with an encouragement from the book of Jude to remain in the love of God, Who is able to keep us from stumbling. Apparently God’s word hit home, as the following Monday a group of 15 people came to help with the construction of the church in Chalhua. Later, Jaime met with an adviser to the mayor of the nearby city of Yanama. The mayor had previously offered the use of the district’s concrete truck to transport what remains of the needed concrete for the church. The adviser shared that the truck will be available in September.
We give all praise and glory to God Who continues to work all things for the good of those who love Him and ask that you’d continue to lift up God’s work – and workers – in Peru.
