Mission Moments: Peru

Comfort for Jaime

Climbing For Christ’s Peruvian missionary, Jaime Servat, received terrible news that his ex-wife and his estranged son both died in 2015.

“I was informed through an old friend that they were taken with lung cancer and a heart attack,” a grieving Jaime informed us.

His son, Oswaldo, died in July at the age of 27. Oswaldo’s mother had died in May. She was 53. Jaime had not seen either in several years, despite efforts to reconcile with family members.

Please join us in lifting Jaime in prayer – for strength and peace that are beyond human understanding – as he continues to minister to those in need in the Andes Mountains of Peru.

In January, he was busy most of the month with our little sister Alisson, who was diagnosed with early onset epilepsy (inherited from her mother). Climbing For Christ met Alisson on our inaugural Mission: Peru 2010 in the village of Chalhua, where we have since built a church.

We helped Alisson find her mother, Taina, who had deserted her daughter several years before we arrived in Chalhua. Alisson has since excelled in school until recently having some episodes that led Jaime to pursue medical tests in Lima.

While Jaime was visiting Chalhua in January he was putting the finishing touches on the church building, including fixing glass in the windows. He then celebrated worship with eight believers, studying Romans 12 and Christian conduct.

“Then we praised Him,” Jaime said. “We prayed for some hip pains of our precious sister Alejandrina, so then God was healing her with almost no pains. Praise God!”

May our Healing Father also mend the pain that dear brother Jaime is now suffering. He is asking for the comfort of God.

The Word

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your god is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9 (ESV)
