Building the church
Climbing For Christ has conducted 10 Evangelic Expeditions to Nepal, including four trips to the remote Far West district of Humla from 2012 to 2015. When God first directed C4C to Humla (an area that is the size of the U.S. states of Delaware or Rhode Island with no roads or pavement beyond the mountainside landing strip), we found a 5-year-old house church with 10-to-12 believers in the district headquarters of Simikot. A group of brothers asked us to pray that women would accept Jesus so they would have someone to marry in a largely Buddhist part of the country. We did so and in 2013 we celebrated the first Christian marriage in the church in Humla. The second occurred in 2014 and the first child was born to this couple in 2015.
From Simikot, our teams have trekked to many villages, delivering (often for the first time) the Good News of Jesus. In Torpa (photo above), a young lady named Chhoringin became the village’s first believer in 2012. Several others have followed on successive visits.
As we have witnessed the growth of the body of Christ – from the handful of brothers we met in 2012 to perhaps 150 or more in 2015 – we have seen the need for a church building. We have been blessed with this opportunity and have proceeded with the purchase of land, which will be followed by the construction of Humla’s first house of worship (prayerfully) in the year ahead.
