Pray unceasingly for the persecuted

Our brother was going door to door in a Pakistani village, bringing the love of Christ to the people living there. Suddenly, two men appeared. They shook his hand. Then they showed him a pistol and told him, by name, “Your time is finished. Run wherever you can. But you must be killed.”

We received word of this incident as we were preparing for the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church on Nov. 2. It was a harsh reminder that we should be praying for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ every day. “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

We tried to give our readers some insight into persecution in Pakistan in the Special Report in our new issue of The Climbing Way (Volume 29, Autumn 2014), which should have reached most mailboxes of North American members and friends on our current mailing list. (Anyone wanting a copy of this issue in North America and abroad should email a request to info@ClimbingForChrist.org and include their complete postal address.)

Climbing For Christ president Gary Fallesen will be sharing from the story “Behind the enemy’s line” when he leads an International Day of Prayer (IDOP) event at Crowsnest Christian Centre in Alberta, Canada at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2. Jordan Rowley, C4C’s spiritual coordinator, also will be hosting an IDOP gathering at his home church, Living Water Christian Fellowship, in Rochester, NY, at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2.

We encourage you to hold a time of prayer at your church, in your home, with your small group, or on your own to lift our persecuted brethren. But don’t just pray on Nov. 2. Pray every day. Start now!

Pray for those living in persecuted places. Start with our brother and his family in Pakistan who are facing death threats. Lift our members who are living in restricted and hostile countries where we are ministering, such as Indonesia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Tanzania, Turkey, and Uganda. And don’t forget to pray for our persecutors. Pray for them daily and without ceasing.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”– Matthew 5:10 (ESV)
