Project 1:27 Malawi

Jesus comes to four more orphans

Catherine Gwembere with bedding and clothing provided through C4C Canada funding.

Here is my story: My name is Catherine Gwembere. I am 8 years old. I am in grade 4. I lost my dad in 2007, when I was only 1 year old. He died of HIV/AIDS after a long illness that left my family with nothing. I cannot remember him. I was never treated with fatherly love in my life.

Catherine is learning about our heavenly Father’s love.

“I will not leave you as orphans,” Jesus says in John 14:18. “I will come to you.”

Catherine is one of four orphans who have been added to Climbing For Christ’s Project 1:27 Malawi. Moyenda Nivivele, Chrissie Kachala and Jaquiline Maleta are the others.

Moyenda Nivivele was cared for by an elderly, poor grandmother.

Here is my story: My name Frank Nivivele. My nickname is Moyenda. I am 11 years old. I am in grade 2. I lost both of my parents in 2008. My dad suffered from leprosy and HIV/AIDS. My mum died of AIDS.

Each of the 20 children in the care of Pastor Duncan Nyozani’s Searchlight Ministries is sponsored by Climbing For Christ. Pastor Duncan joined C4C in February 2009. We were introduced to Searchlight when a thief broke into the orphanage in October 2009 and stole one month worth of the children’s food.

At the time, there were 15 children in the orphanage.

This is where Climbing For Christ’s Project 1:27 began in 2010. Project 1:27 – since expanded to Nepal – is based on James 1:27, which instructs us “to look after orphans and widows in distress.”

Now, 20 children are cared for – thanks to the support of 10 sponsors. The four children blessed to be added to Searchlight care are sponsored by Crowsnest Community Christian Centre in Crowsnest Pass, AB, through C4C Canada.

Chrissie Kachala.

Chrissie Kachala, age 13, is in grade 8. Her mother died in 2010 and her elderly father is very sick. Malawi ranks in the top 10 in the world for people living with and dying from HIV/AIDS. One in 10 adults suffer from HIV/AIDS.

Jaquiline Maleta.

Jaquiline Maleta is an 8-year-old girl in grade 3. We do not know what happened to her parents.

We have been blessed to add children to Project 1:27 Malawi. There are many more waiting. While this orphan program has grown to 20, we have lost two sponsors. Junio Kapito and Dorphy Mukalangeya both need to be supported. If you can help, email info@ClimbingForChrist.org. A child can be sponsored for US$50 per month. CLICK HERE to visit the Project 1:27 sponsor page.

Short-term mission teams have visited the orphanage in 2010, 2011 and 2014. Another team will be sent on Mission: Malawi 2015.
