Mission Moments: Haiti

Out with the old, in with the ‘new generation’

The New Generation, as Gilbert calls himself and his friends ministering in Haiti, were dubbed “the next generation” of Haitian missionaries by us in The Climbing Way (Vol. 36, Sept. 2016).

Our friend Gilbert finished 2017 in thankfulness to God for all that He provided through Climbing For Christ to support not only him as he finished high school and prepared to enter college in the Dominican Republic, but for lives in Haiti again impacted by the possibility of education.

The “New Generation” team, as Gilbert dubbed he and his friends who serve in Haiti, spent the CHRISTmas season in Gentilhomme and Malasi. They met with parents, teachers, and students, handing out “meritorious” awards to the grade-schoolers who are excelling at their studies. They served cookies and juice at the schools.

Gilbert and team held a bi-monthly workshop for the six teachers who are receiving support from Climbing For Christ. They then hosted a dinner, which was attended by guests from Jimani, DR, where Gilbert has lived the past 10 years since God used C4C to rescue him from near death in Gentilhomme with a gangrened broken leg.

“More than a dinner, it was a night of great experience,” Gilbert said, “because we had prepared a video of photos along with a small definition of what is the ministry of the ‘new generation,’ our mission and vision. It was really a spectacle for the guests. They were surprised by the work we are doing.”

Gilbert also shared a video with us, which Climbing For Christ spiritual coordinator Jordan Rowley edited. Gilbert translated the words in the song:

“In you I find all we need / without You, for us, life has no meaning / You are always there to make paths for us / come dwell in me / take Your place in my life / the door of our life is open so that You can reign / Father, we want to let You satisfy our desire / because You are more than we have / I feel that there is a void in me / I make room in me so that You can come to reign.”
