Mission Moments: Peru

God sent a team of seven North Americans to the Cordillera Huayhuash range of the Peruvian Andes in 2014. Our main objective for that Mission: Peru 2014 was simply to reach out to remote Quechua farming communities with the love and truth of Jesus.

We were joined by C4C’s missionary to Peru, Jaime Servat, as well as guide Marco Milla. Several months after our expedition, Jaime returned to minister to several people we’d met during the first part of our mission (see “A harvest in the Huayhuash”).

Jaime returned to the area once again in October 2017. Here’s his report:

In the village of Queropalca, Jaime reconnected with local believers in a small independent church, where he shared a message about the offering of the poor widow (Luke 21:1-4). He also reported that several people suffering from various ailments asked for prayer. “God healed some who believed,” Jaime told us, “like Ronaldo, who had his right arm paralyzed during three days without [being able to] move it. The next day, [after prayer], he showed me his arm moving.”

Later, in Macchay Cancha, sister Susana also needed healing from the Lord. However, her need was a spiritual healing. After being apart from the Lord for a year, she “was touched by His Spirit under a broken heart,” Jaime said. As he shared the story of the prodigal son with Susana, she “came again to [God],” Jaime said, “so hallelujah.”

In addition, Jaime hiked for several hours to reach Esther and her son, Nemesio; two souls God has touched deeply through our 2014 expedition and Jaime’s follow-up visit.

Back in 2014, Jaime was shocked to learn that Esther, an elderly Quechua farmer, had never heard of Jesus. We were thrilled to share all about Jesus with her – from the very “beginning” – and she was happy to receive. Her son, however, would not speak with us at the time. His heart was hard toward Jesus.

Months later, when Jaime returned to the area, he found Nemesio very ill in bed. This time Nemesio’s heart was soft. Jaime prayed with him to receive Jesus as his Savior and for healing. Angels rejoiced, although no immediate healing took place. After more encouragement and prayer, Jaime left and made the long trek back to Queropalca. The next morning, a visitor arrived on horseback. It was Nemesio. “God healed me, brother,” he said. We praised God with Jaime and Nemesio!

Last month, during Jaime’s revisit, he encouraged Esther and Nemesio and prayed with them yet again. “I met both very happy and motivated with Jesus faith,” Jaime told us. “[They are] praying [to] God always so they remembered us.” In fact, they remember those North Americans who visited them back in 2014 as “los hermanos rubios,” meaning the light-skinned brothers.

We praise God for all of the brothers and sisters we’ve met along the trail in Peru. In 2018, we plan to return to the Cordillera Huayhuash to deliver the Good News to people living in the hard-to-reach mountains. CLICK HERE to read about this upcoming Evangelic Expedition.
