Mission Moments: Peru

Converting the soul

“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul,” Climbing For Christ’s missionary to Peru, Jaime Servat, concluded in his latest report, in reference to Psalm 19:7.

Jaime knows a thing or two about “converting the soul.” No matter where he goes, Jaime delights to tell those around him about the Good News of Jesus – and many make a decision to trust in Christ.

Most recently, the Lord sent him to the province of Llamellin.

“I [came across] a church named Iglesia de Dios del Peru [and during the evening worship service] I told them about our Climbing For Christ ministry,” Jaime reported. “So they were praying for my trip to [do] outreach [among the] farmers in the mountains.”

And the Lord heard those prayers.

The following day, Jaime acquired a map of the entire province of Llamellin. He returned to his rented room and began to pray for guidance. The Spirit of God led his eyes – and heart – to a name on the map: Mirgas. Jaime made the necessary arrangements and set out for the village. After a one-hour drive through the mountainous roads, he had arrived. And not long after paying the driver, he met a sister in the Lord who would further point him in God’s direction.

“She recommended [that I hike] three hours [to reach] Paño village, where [the] farmers don’t have a church,” Jaime said.

Arriving in Paño late in the afternoon, Jaime made plans to begin his outreach and evangelism the following day. It was the next day when the Lord led him to Luz, a 15-year-old girl who had been experiencing nightmares for several nights.

Luz, with God's word in hand.

“She accepted [the] Lord Jesus under a prayer to our God. And I prayed for healing. Then I [gave her] a New Testament,” Jaime said.

The following day Jaime shared with a farmer named Teofila. She was leading some horses down the path when they met. After hearing the Good News of Jesus, she received His salvation. Or as Jaime put it: “I shared His Word and she accepted.”

Teofila immediately thought of her husband. “She asked [me] to visit her house to preach [to] her husband, Inocencio,” Jaime reported. But before Jaime could reach Inocencio, he met a young lady on the path named Liz. As Jaime shared the love of Jesus with her, she too decided to put her faith in Him. After praying and giving Liz a New Testament, Jaime continued on his way to visit Inocencio.

“In the afternoon, I met [Teofila] in her house and her husband. So I presented His Word and [Inocencio] accepted [the] Lord Jesus.”

Praying for Inocencio.

Later on that evening, a small house-church gathering was held. And Jaime shared.

“In the middle of my preaching on salvation and healing, a young father lifted his hand and he asked to [receive] the Lord Jesus. So [he] prayed with us to our God that [he would] be born again, so hallelujah.”

And heaven rejoices.

On his way back to Huaraz (where he lives), Jaime made sure to stop back in to Iglesia de Dios del Peru (the same church he visited when he first arrived in Llamellin) “to give thanks to our God and testify [to] His church [about] my missionary outreach.”

We hope and pray that, in addition to the many souls that have been touched by God on Jaime’s short expedition to the province of Llamellin, the church there has been touched as well. May they boldly GO and share the Good News faithfully, “converting the soul” of all those God directs them to.
