Claudia Warren

Claudia, right, helping a friend on Climbing For Christ’s Heritage hike in the Adirondacks in October 2016.

Nationality: American. Occupation: Social worker. I work with people struggling with mental illness and addiction. Missions with C4C: Nepal 2017.

How long have you climbed? Since college, and that is a loooong time ago. About 40 years. Type of climbing you do: Mostly dayhikes in the Adirondacks. My favorite is slide climbing, non-technical friction climbing. Highlight of climbing career: Perhaps climbing Mont Blanc.

How long have you been a Christian? I was baptized as an infant. I was drawn to church and prayer as a child and teen. In college I questioned my faith and called myself an agnostic. During that time I explored other faith traditions, reading about Judaism and Buddhism, and then came back to the faith of my childhood, with a deepened appreciation the priceless treasure the Christian faith is.

Type of ministry you are blessed to serve in: I consider my work as my ministry. A social worker serves the poor and marginalized in our society, and in serving them wholeheartedly, I feel I am serving Christ.

Favorite Scripture verse (and why): I think one of my favorite verses is the last verse of Matthew’s gospel, “And know that I am with you always, until the end of time.” I love that one because, what more can we ask for than Jesus’ constant companionship? What more could we ever need?

Special “God moment” you’d like to share: I go to the mountains because I find God in the mountains. A special moment might be summiting Wright Mountain in the Adirondacks at 4:30 a.m. and seeing the morning star hanging directly over the summit, and feeling surrounded, inside and out, by God at that moment.

What does Climbing For Christ mean to you? Having the opportunity to be part of a team that is committed to bringing the Gospel to people in remote, mountainous areas, who have never heard it. Wow!
